Part Time Bariatric Nutritionist - 20-30 hours per week

A Bariatric Nutritionist will provide pre and post surgery nutritional and behavioral counseling to participants undergoing weight loss surgery; interventions are done via the telephone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide telephone based counseling and behavioral support to program participants pre and post surgery.
  • Orient participant to services provided and expectations for outcomes.
  • Review food and beverage intake and assist with food recording tools to be used.
  • Set specific, attainable goals around eating and exercise according to program guidelines.
  • Review food records and calorie estimations, exercise level, fluid intake, number of meals, food intolerances, timing of consumption, satiety, and vitamin intake.
  • Document all behaviors using approved charting systems.
  • Coordinate with team members and participate in program content evaluation, revision and development as needed.
  • Attend bi-monthly staff meetings.
  • Coordinate patient care with client groups and surgeons.
  • Attend and present at Bariatric support group meetings annually.
     

Required Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

Education, Licenses, and Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in health related field
  • Register Dietitian certification required
  • Masters Degree in Public Health or nutrition preferred
  • Certified Diabete Educator highly desired
     

Specialized Skills and Experience

  • Exemplary communication skills including listening, shaping, motivation, and ability to work with a population undergoing significant medical and behavioral changes.
  • Advanced knowledge of weight management tools and skills including nutrition, physical activity, and behavior change techniques.
  • Experience with Bariatric Surgery nutritional practices preferred.
  • Must be tobacco and nicotine free
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy lifestyle preferred
  • This position is part time 20-30 hours per week, must be available to work one evening from 5-8pm, one morning from 8am-12pm, Wednesday afternoons and Thursday mornings from 9am - 12pm required.
